ABOUT
Inspired by her Abuelita, Kaylah Bañuelos takes the traditional Mexican embroidery techniques passed down to her and reimagines them into pieces of art for the Modern Latiné.
Based in Austin, Texas, Okay Lahv creates original hand embroidery, seed bead jewelry and olla candles inspired by her culture and the Chihuahuan desert landscape.
For custom work, collaborations, pop-up opportunities, or to just say hello - reach out at the contact form below and we will get in touch as soon as possible.
“Just like the plants of the Chihuahuan Desert, my roots run deep through the crossroads of Northern Mexico and West Texas.
I have fond memories being raised in the borderland town of El Paso, Texas. The smell of homemade Mexican food, the kaleidoscope of brightly painted houses, and the nurturing presence of the strong women who shaped me.
My art serves as a canvas to express the rich tapestry of my multicultural upbringing. I take pride in offering a glimpse of my heritage to the community, a vibrant blend of colors, flavors, and traditions.
Through my artistic journey, I’ve shared stories with countless Latinés who share similar backgrounds, and I eagerly anticipate connecting with many more souls as beautiful and diverse as the culture that has shaped me. ”
